…and they need your help!

The XX Coders Summer Camp is back again this year thanks to the efforts of Half Hollow Hills East HS Senior, Aditi Patil.  Aditi and her team need your help to make this another successful summer for the young ladies in Wyandanch, NY!

XX Coders is a free 2-week summer camp offered to young ladies from Wyandanch, NY. Due to budget constraints and lack of resources, Wyandanch Public School doesn’t currently offer Computer Science or coding classes to their students. Many of the girls who join the camp are learning about computer programming and technology careers for the first time.

Last year, a group of 18 young women had a wonderful 2-weeks filled with technology speakers and mentors, coding sessions in Java, Python and Javascript and a field trip to Google HQ in NYC. Because of the success of the program, XX Coders club was able to extend the coding classes throughout the 2017-2018 school year, keeping the students engaged and increasing their impact along the way. You can hear all about the program and its success here.

We need your help to make this happen again!

What they need…

  • SWAG! – Can you donate company branded items like T-shirts, backpacks, stickers, water bottles, bluetooth speakers, flash drives, pens & notepads to give to the students? It’s a great motivator and a way to show the young women all the amazing companies they can look forward to working with or for in their futures.

  • Donations/Sponsors -Funds are needed to hire instructors, provide busing & meals as well as purchasing adequate supplies and licenses for the technology the students will learn. Donations of any amount can be made through YouCaring or you can contact Aditi to sponsor a specific activity or student:

    • $300 to Sponsor One Girl for Summer Camp

    • $450 to Sponsor Food/Travel Expenses for the Camp

    • $600 to Sponsor One Girls for Year-Round Activities

  • Speakers & Mentors – Are you able to come down to the camp for an hour and speak to the students about your job, your education path, coding skills, or help teach them a new technology? The camp runs from July 16th – July 27th, so let us know if you can join them to inspire this next generation of engineers.

  • NYC Office Visits – Last year they visited the Google HQ in NYC and this year they’d like to visit another large tech company headquarters to teach the girls all about working in this industry while exciting them to the perks you get when working in tech. The girls are also open to a Long Island office trip so let us know if your company is willing to host about 25 young ladies and their teachers for the day.

Please let us know if you can assist with any of the requests above by responding to this email. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to me (Stefana Muller) directly at liwomenintech@gmail.com and we’ll connect you with Aditi and her team.
