Long Island Women in Tech online “Lunch and Learns” are back!

On March 24, 2017, we invited executive coach Tanis Cornell to share with us her advice in a talk entitled “Navigating The River of Career Success.” In this interactive discussion, Tanis coupled her insights from an extensive career in business in fast-moving markets with recent industry studies in the areas of leadership behavior and risk factors to help guide the audience to clear actionable steps of navigating their careers.

She explained to us the 9 Leadership Competencies and how to build a personal leadership brand that will translate well to others in the organization. One of the most eye-opening segments of the talk was when Tanis introduced the 11 Behavioral Risk Factors for leaders and which risk factors are perceived more negatively for women vs. men. We enjoyed her advice on when and where to bring emotion into the job and how to control perception of that emotion.

Tanis summed up the discussion with 6 straight-forward action items for the group. Visit the recording below to hear this talk and gain insight into how you too can navigate the rough waters of your career.

As a follow up, Tanis recommends the Tedx talk by Susan Colantuono entitled “The Career Advice You Probably Didn’t Get“.

If you had a chance to attend the discussion and/or watch the recording, let us know your feedback below in the comments. We look forward to hearing from you.
