Thanks to all of YOU, our Long Island Women in Tech networking group has grown tremendously over the past year and a half.
We began as a group of 5 women and have since built a network of over 250 members across Long Island with a few across the US. This group has fostered new business relationships, helped folks navigate the job market, shared the best tips for a personal brand through social media and has given us tactical tips to address and negotiate salary in this male dominated field of technology.
LIWIT has hosted 15 events featuring exceptional Women presenters from around the country to help us all learn and grow in our careers while staying close to home. Thank you to those wonderful women for volunteering their time and sharing their expertise with our group.
On behalf of LIWIT, our members have volunteered at 6 school districts across Long Island this year to help teach kids to code and mentor the future generation of women in tech.
This group is the product of its members and as such, I wanted to take this time to thank you for being here; for participating, presenting, sharing, collaborating, volunteering and mentoring.
Help Us Plan Our New Years Resolutions!
Our focus in 2017 is to increase engagement within LI Women in Tech and in order begin to build a plan, we want to hear from you! Please help us organize for the next year by sharing your feedback through this quick poll.
Now on to ACTION!
As 2016 comes to a close, I often reflect on the ways LI Women in Tech can make a difference in our community. There are many teachers, professors and community leaders who’ve reached out to LI Women in Tech asking for our help. Please consider volunteering to help Long Island build it’s tech roots through one of the opportunities below:
- Volunteer to Mentor High School Girls in Tech (Commack High School needs mentors to help students build a mobile app. Contact me directly if you’re interested in hearing more.)
- Become an Hour of Code Volunteer (No previous experience required – there are only 10 of us TOTAL on LI. We need your help! You can dedicate 1 hour or a whole week, what ever you can give.)
Last, but definitely not least, I hope you and your family have a lovely holiday season filled with joy and positive reflection.
Here’s to a new year filled with happiness and success!
Seasons Greetings,
Stefana Muller
